Nylon, the world‘s first synthetic fiber invented by DuPont in 1935, is a polyamide material renowned for its exceptional mechanical properties.

Key Properties


Nylon offers high tensile strength (3.5–5.5 cN/dtex), excellent abrasion resistance (10× better than cotton), and superior elasticity with near-perfect recovery after stretching. It is lightweight (density 1.14 g/cm³), soft to touch, and resistant to oils, chemicals, and mildew. Its melting point ranges from 220°C (Nylon 6) to 260°C (Nylon 66).

二、Disadvantages


1.Poor UV resistance: Degrades quickly in sunlight (requires UV stabilizers for outdoor use).


2.Moisture sensitivity: Absorbs water, losing 10–15% strength when wet.


3.Acid sensitivity: Damaged by strong acids.


4.Static buildup: Attracts dust and lint.


5.Higher cost: More expensive than polyester.


Nylon remains the material of choice when maximum strength, abrasion resistance, and elasticity are required, despite its limitations in outdoor and wet environments.
